There are three route options:
This walk - 6¼ miles walk Welton Wold to Turtle Hill & Brantingham Wold walk - covers Welton Wold to Wauldby Dam, to Turtle Hill then to Brantingham Wold.
Walk 1 - 3 miles walk - Welton Wold & Welton Dale walk - covers Welton Wold then returns along Welton Dale.
Walk 2 - 4¾ miles walk Welton Dale & Elloughton Wold Welton Dale & Elloughton Wold - covers Welton Dale then through Lings Plantation, Elloughton Dale & Scarbro Wold Plantation.
There is limited parking on Cowgate (SE 959 273) along the road or opposite the Green Dragon in front of the Church of Saint Helen, with further parking at the end of Chapel Hill, after passing Holly Hill, where the woodland starts on Crossall Hill Lane (SE 962 274). If parking other than on Crossall Hill Lane, head to the traffic island opposite the church, where there is a green bench with a white National Trails acorn logo.

04 | 1.75 miles | SE 969 296 | At Wauldby Dam, the path bends sharp left, then a sharp right, continue on the Yorkshire Wolds Way heading north, passing Wauldby Manor Farm. After ½ of a mile the track turns sharp right, then after a further ½ of a mile arrive at a cross track junction on Turtle Hill. |
05 | 2.25 miles | SE 972 304 | At the cross trail junction, turn left at Turtle Hill/Wauldby Green, signed Yorkshire Wolds Way. Follow the hedge row, through Bottom Plantation to a road junction. Follow the road ahead for ¼ of a mile, to where the road bends sharp left. |
06 | 3.10 miles | SE 958 303 | After the road bends sharp left, turn right along the farm track and through Long Plantation. At the end of the path, there is a bench with a way maker 'Filey 69 miles', where the trail joins a road (Spout Hill). |
07 | 3.66 miles | SE 950 300 | Follow the road (Spout Hill) for ¼ a mile, with tree line on left. Pass Brantingham Wold Grange (on the right), continue to where the road bends slightly to the right and to a footpath on the left. (If the road bends left, you’ve gone too far!) |
08 | 3.90 miles | SE 947 298 | Turn left signed 'public footpath', and enter the woodland of Brantingham Heads. Follow the path to a finger post signed Brantingham 1 mile, Welton 1½ miles. |
09 | 4.65 miles | SE 951 291 | Turn right joining the public bridleway, pass through a kiss gate into Scarbro Wold Plantation. After almost ½ of a mile the trail bends sharp left along Peggy Farrow Land. |
10 | 5.25 miles | SE 956 289 | Take the track on the right, follow the trail to the edge of the woodland, pass through a kiss gate, and follow the trail along the open farmland on the western edge of Elloughton Wold. |
14 | 5.40 miles | SE 949 283 | At the end of Peggy Farrow Lane pass through a kiss gate, cross over the road ahead signed Welton. For High Road for 1 mile back to Welton and the start. |
