01 0.00 miles NY 804 043 From Nateby follow the B6270 for about 2.5 miles or 6.25 miles from Keld to a level grassed area – park here, on the north side.
Beyond which is the start along a well trodden path. Unfortunately (1st June 2023) the signed finger post that marked the route has been removed.
At the path fork bear right, pass through two latch gates and a field of stones.
02 0.5 miles NY 809 049 At the end of the wire fence, the path bears right (north east) over peat moorland which can be very boggy after rain, towards a dry stone wall (NY 812 052), at a place called Lamps Moss. Though the route is not sign posted, the path is well trodden and obvious.
03 1.0 miles NY 815 056 Cross over Rollinson Gill (select the crossing point well!). Then continue to a cairn/collection of rocks, then bear east to a fingerpost 'Hartley 3 1/2m and Nateby Road B6270 1 1/4m.
04 1.25 miles NY 817 057 At the fingerpost take a bearing of 50 degrees, then follow the well trodden and obvious path straight ahead. The path leads to the trig point, the bearing is for the Nine Standards to the left - not easily visible during low cloud or bad weather!
05 1.90 miles NY 825 060 Make a steady ascent up Rollinson Haggs to the trig point. At the trig point, turn left to head north along the stony grassy path to the Nine Standards Rigg.
06 2.15 miles NY 825 064 From the Nine Standards Rigg, a short excursion is worthwhile to Fox Craggs which is a nice alternative picnic spot, if the Nine Standards is crowded.
07 2.6 miles NY 829 068 Return to the Nine Standards Rigg to pick up the trail heading west, marked by two small stone cairns. Descend the path for about 1 mile, as it follows Faraday Gill.
08 3.88 miles NY 810 067 At the path junction, turn left to head south east. Continue along the path back to the fingerpost at serial 4. Then retrace the route 1.25 miles back to the start.
