Walk Summary

This is a very pleasant short 3 mile circular walk around Foreland Point to the lighthouse from Countisbury via Butter Hill, with gentle ascents and descents, predominantly over well defined grass bridle paths and tarmac single track road to the lighthouse. The route to this point is leisurely. From the lighthouse the route becomes more moderate and can be a bit more of a challenge, as the path is very exposed! along the nothern bank of the estuary along a very narrow and over loose scree in some places. Caution is required when negotiating the part of the route. I high 40 mph plus winds or icy conditions unless very experienced and skilled, it would be wise to consider retracing the trail back to the foot of Butter Hill. This route is very exposed in places it is recommended to carry a windproof top or an extra layer.

On a clear day the view across the channel to the south coast of Wales is breathtaking. The top of the Foreland is a great place for a picnic, though it can be a bit windy. There are some great view up to Lynmouth.
